ForgeHide

How We Make Our Leather Goods

How we cut, skive and stitch every ForgeHide piece — the bench, the machines and the people who make it.

The bench

Photograph the actual bench, the patterns on the wall and the machines. This page is the one thing no reseller on these search results can copy, so it carries real pictures and real names, or it carries nothing.

What happens to a hide

Walk the hide from grading to boxing: grade, cut, skive, stitch, finish. State the machine, the stitch count and the thread. Numbers you can check beat adjectives every time.

Who makes it

Name the makers and say how long they have been at the bench. Replace this paragraph once you have their permission.

01

Choose the hide

We buy whole hides, not panels, and grade them ourselves for scars and stretch.

02

Cut the pattern

Every size is a separate pattern. Made-to-measure gets a pattern cut from your own eight measurements.

03

Skive and prepare

Edges are skived to 0.4 mm so seams sit flat instead of bulking.

04

Stitch

Post-bed machine, 8 stitches per inch, bonded nylon thread. Stress points bar-tacked.

05

Finish

Edges burnished, hardware set, then a final grade before it is boxed.
